About Samuel Tafula
A Mozambican portrait artist, born and raised in Inhambane province. Samuel started drawing at the age of 15 years on sand, and has never had any formal artistic training.
Due to political instability in the country and in search of greener pastures, he transitioned to South Africa in 1990. For a while Samuel lived in a hostel in Krugersdorp in effort to get employment in the mines, but it was in vain. It was then when he commenced drawing miners, who became his first clients.
He moved to Johannesburg where he started drawing portraits at the street corner. The demand was more than the supply, Samuel became well known by his clients, mainly students, who came for portraits and had many admirers of his work which was often displayed in the street.
In a short period of time, Samuel was well-known by many who came at his corner for portraits and most of His clients were South Africans, European tourists and people all over the world would call him, those who would have seen his portraits in client’s house. Apart from being an artist, Samuel is the founder of the Tafula Pencil Brush that he established in 1995. It took him 13 years to develop the unique brush. The Tafula Pencil Brush is designed specifically for artists who use Pencil and Charcoal as drawing medium and it is used to soften lines.
“It is my ambition to share ideas with other artists and also to join them in group exhibitions.” says Samuel Tafula.

Tafula Pencil Brush
Given the challenges Samuel Tafula faced in getting a proper tool to smooth pencil lines and blend them in a nice way, he thought of some ideas, but before he could implement them, he traveled to England to research on how to improve his artwork. It was then, returning to South Africa that he managed to finalize his ideas and come up with unique tools that could do exactly what he had in mind, TAFULA PENCIL BRUSH, which is sold online and in some art supply shops around South Africa.
The TAFULA PENCIL BRUSH is designed to save time and improve the quality and beauty of drawings.
